Profiling
A lesser known but important aspect of Stabilised Pavements business is its profiling activities. The company was responsible for one of
the largest single profiling jobs in Australia - The
M4 Motorway West upgrade in New
South Wales.
The upgrade involved a 20km stretch
between the service centres at Prospect and Mulgoa Rd, Penrith. The
upgrade was undertaken over a 15 month period ending in April 1998 during
which the two existing lanes in each direction were upgraded to three lanes,
and the road surface was re-sheeted to achieve an additional pavement life
of 20 years.
Stabilised Pavements has found that
profilers are becoming widely used
in excavation. While the initial cost may be slightly higher than a
hydraulic excavator, the method is much quicker and neater, and the finely
milled materials can be reused. Disruption to business and traffic is
minimised.
Stabilised Pavements has a fleet of
profilers to suit a wide variety of
conditions. They range from 1m to 2.6 m wide and incorporate the latest
technology. The company's 2.6m Wirtgen machine is the only machine in
Australia to cut at this width to 450mm in one pass.
